IN ATHENS

Settled among the predominantly Protestant hills of Appalachia and home to Ohio University, Athens, Ohio stands out as a hub for education, community and diversity. Since the town's founding in 1805, it has often been called a "bubble" of inclusivity, and because of this many religious and spiritual communities have emerged here, with each establishing their own formal and informal practice locations.

The map below labels every religious building within the city, color coded by denomination. The bar graph below the map further illustrates the comparable number of locations per denomination to show the extent of Athens's diversity.
